Meet Mattie

Senator Matthea Elisabeth Larsen Daughtry is a small business owner from Brunswick who was unanimously elected to serve her first term as President of the Maine Senate in December 2024. She was nominated by Republicans and Democrats. President Daughtry is the first person from Brunswick to serve in this role since 1831 and the first woman Senate President born in Maine. She is the youngest woman Senate President in Maine history.

In her time in the Legislature, President Daughtry has been recognized for authoring nationally-recognized bills to reduce student debt, to support older Mainers, and to increase economic development. Because of a law she authored, working Mainers will have access to paid family and medical leave beginning in 2026.
